Dick was born to Delbert and Martha (Bistedeau) Olsen on March 10, 1940 in Minneapolis, MN. He attended school in Minneapolis; and in 1987, was married to Connie Fitzsimonds in Las Vegas, Nevada. He worked for Viking Sprinkler in Minneapolis for 25 years and in 1981 and Dick started Olsen Fire Protection in the twin cities. The couple lived in Maple Grove, MN and Elk River, MN; and after retirement, moved to Remer in 1995.
Dick is fondly remembered as a man with a great heart and a great spirit. He was well liked and always went out of his way for others. He enjoyed anything mechanical, welding, hunting and fishing. He was extremely knowledgeable regarding repairs and was a good listener and talker, providing direction and inspiration. He was always around when a friend was needed.
Survivors include wife, Connie; sons, Kevin (Lisa) Olsen, Kurt Olsen, Gregory Longley, and Randall Longley; daughters, Kelly (Kelly) Neider, Kris (Bruce) Levchak, Kimberley (Pat) Richards, and Debra Tilleskjor; 26 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and sister, Delores (John) Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Robert Olsen.
A gathering of friends and family will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by an 11:00 memorial service Saturday, March 5, 2016, at Salem Lutheran Church in Longville, MN. Pastor Trish Gorgenson will officiate. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Salem Lutheran Church of Longville. Arrangements are being made with Dennis Funeral Home of Walker.
