Polar Bears take advantage of Storm miscues
The Storm posted the first points in the game on a 3-yard run from Brendan Gould in the second quarter, a lead that would last until a minute remaining in the half where Floodwood scored on a 47-yard reverse and subsequent 2-point conversion.
The second half started with Hill City-Northland kicking off and pinning Floodwood deep after bobbling the catch and a holding penalty. That play was nullified by a Storm facemask forcing a re-kick where the Polar Bears would begin their drive at mid-field. Floodwood would remain on the field through most of the third quarter through costly mental errors and penalties and three fourth-down conversion by the Polar Bears put the score at 6-16.
A quick three-and-out by HCN put a tired defense back on the field and gave up a 37-yard TD pass to put the game out of reach at 6-22.
The HCN JV-squad would complete the fourth quarter playing well against a larger and more experienced team giving up a pair of touchdowns.
"It was a disappointing loss, we had a number of opportunities to take control of the game but failed to do so. Penalties and mental errors cost us the opportunity for a 2-0 start." Concluded Coach Graham.
The players and staff need to put the disappointment behind them as they prepare to travel to Ogilvie for a 7 p.m. kickoff.[[In-content Ad]]
