Paranoid style vs. foolish style

To the Editor,

Recently I read an article by Simon Maloy of Media Matters titled: "Glenn Beck and the Paranoid Style". Maloy writes for Media Matters for the purpose of ridiculing conservative principles in order to protect socialist Maxis thought and their control of our federal government.

The paranoid style that Simon Maloy chose to describe Glenn Beck as is taken from an author by the name of Richard Hofstadter (born 6 August 1916 - died 24 October 1970). Richard Hofstadter has a pedigree as a collegiate intellectual, an anti-capitalist and a one time card carrying communist. (1938)

Let me start with a quote from Richard Hofstadter:

"It is ironic that the United States should have been founded by intellectuals, for throughout most of our political history, the intellectual has been for the most part either an outsider, a servant or a scapegoat."

WOO-WOO-WOO!

It's too bad that Hofstadter is not alive today because the United States is being "re-founded" by the intellectuals!

Am I anti-intellectual? By in large today yes! The vast majority of citizens are "not" intellectuals. The intellectual is clothed, fed, financed with taxes, and housed by a population of citizens whose knowledge they don't have and don't see as knowledgeable enough to be self-governed. Even at the State level.

I, on the other hand, am a general contractor who has 36 years experience in dealing with success and failure. Which are the two key essentials for the development of knowledge, truth and maturity. The intellectual has a lot of academic knowledge but no practical experience in failure. The only negative the intellectual runs into is an occasional opposing opinion or theory from a colleague... and nothing from their main customer... "The student." Intellectuals live in their minds. It is a place where anything is possible, and with academic freedom they suffer no consequences. The foolishness of the intellectual is the elitism that develops in their minds from the lack of failure and humility that is necessary in keeping all humans grounded. Intellectuals would do them selves a great deal of good if they would close the books, get out from behind the desk, get their hands dirty and experience in some way shape or form that which the rest of us live with everyday.

Simon Maloy is 27 years old, fresh out of college and well indoctrinated with the typical elitism of today's socialist intellectuals. Today's intellectuals have a century of ingrained socialism and humanism. It is a common thread of influence that can be traced through the majority and the best of them. "Paranoia" in dealing with socialist intellectuals is well founded when reviewing the history of this failed and destructive form of government.

I for one, have had enough of the self anointed intellectuals whose perceived purpose in life is to govern the lives of human-beings in what they perceive to be situations of unfairness and that only the intellectual and resultant socialist government can solve. Intellectuals have a knack for making decisions that are more destructive for whole societies than we can do for our selves individually. Life is not fair! I learned that at age five when my dad died.

The fact of the matter is that the ebb and flow of life that all of us must endure and figure out for our selves is essential in maturity. That is why the founding fathers put bankruptcy in the constitution. (Article 1 Sec, 8 cls. 4)

Now the intellectual's budgets and pensions are drying up and believe they are going to escape the consequences of their socialist policies by printing money and charging it to our kids. I guess it's smarter government now to have the government absorb the failures. I ask the intellectual, "what happens when a government goes bankrupt?"[[In-content Ad]]Government's purpose is to define the civil boundaries necessary for "we the people" to be able to live side by side. To resolve our conflicts when those boundaries are crossed, and above all obey and uphold the constitution. Not to infinitely conduct research and then legislate the proper fat content of my butt.

I have been told by others with a so called higher education than I. That being an individual commenting on intellectuals with only my high school diploma was acting "out of my league and lacking depth." I just wonder how long I would be in business if I used that line on my customers when they would comment on my craftsman ship or quality of work. I hope the voters take this into consideration when going to the polls this fall.

The government that governs least governs best; it is the only way! Today we suffer from the growth of big government and its huge debt. It is the product of a century of socialist intellectual's meddling in our personal responsibilities and governmental structure. Personal responsibilities are known as the liberty to choose wisely or foolishly. The school of hard knocks is what the intellectual lacks to complete their education and I feel that there first class is about to start this fall. As a resident of Cass county Dis-8... I ask the people here: "Does James Oberstar represent Minnesotan's or does James Oberstar represent the intellectuals of the Federal Government?"
