Omer Duane Oestreich

Omer was born on January 4, 1923 at Howard Lake, MN to Frank and Emma (Hamman) Oestreich. He was baptized and confirmed at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake. After attending public and parochial school, he graduated from Howard Lake High School with the class of 1941. He went on to attend Aircraft School in Minneapolis, MN. Omer moved to California and gained employment at Consolidated Aircraft in San Diego and later worked for Cal Ship in Wilmington as an arc-welder. He returned to the Howard Lake area where he engaged in farming. Omer was united in marriage to Hilma Rannow of Hutchinson, MN in 1946 and the couple made their home in Minneapolis where he began in the plumbing industry in a career that spanned over 40 years until his retirement in 1987. Omer and Hilma moved to Longville, MN and built a home on Blackwater Lake where they spent their retirement years enjoying lake views and watching the loons pass by the dock.
He will be lovingly remembered by his children: Randy (Patti) Oestreich of Pillager, MN, Diane Ruthenbeck of Arvada, CO, Nancy (Jim) Best of Askov, MN, and Duane Oestreich of Plymouth, MN; 7 grandchildren: Justin, Neil (Suzie), and Heather Best, Jake (Diana), Oestreich and Leah (Kris) Rosendahl, Max (Cassidy) and Tyler Ruthenbeck; great-grandchildren: MacKenzie and Xavier Best, Emma and Becca Best, Bridger and Jericho Oestreich, Shelton Ruthenbeck and Ben Rosendahl; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Omer was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Hilma in 2011; three brothers: Arthur, Marvin and Romeo; and three sisters: Dora Gabbert, Renate Lind, and Eleanor Steiner.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at Salem Lutheran Church in Longville with Reverend Paul Svingen officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. A private family interment will be at the Salem Lutheran Cemetery in Longville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association or Salem Lutheran Church in Longville.
