Northland Eagles get back on track with a win over Mountain Iron-Buhl
"Another game that slipped through our gloves defensively. We continue to learn as we go and today we found out we have to attack in the field the way we do on the bases. Offensively we keep on battling and a seventh inning rally ended with the tieing run on base. Eighth grader Evan Daudt extended his hitting streak to six games. Taylor Smith was, fittingly enough, 2-3 as the designated hitter. Sr. Kevin Murphy pitched better than the box score shows and kept us in the game and a nice running catch by seventh grader Logan Gross in center field, and good relay throw from short stop, Zach Nornberg doubled off a runner at first ending the sixth inning," commented Coach Tim Vagle.
Friday came with the boys hosting Mountain Iron-Buhl (MIB) looking for that elusive combination that would put up a W for the team. The boys would do just that with a 6-3 final tally.[[In-content Ad]]
"Getting back in the win column was a big boost for everyone, the coach included! We worked hard on situational hitting all week long and then went out today and pounded some pitches in good hitting counts. Nornberg pitched extremely well and had two hits but just as important was a ground out with two strikes moving a runner to third allowing us to pick up a run on a wild pitch one of those little things that make us tough. Nornberg took the mound and continued to throw strikes and let us make plays behind him, and today we made the plays, when we do that we can play with anyone. He also went 2-4 at the plate including a double and a pair of RBI's. Patrick Kemper finished 2-2 with a double driving in a run. Murphy reached base all four times up to bat and scored three runs. Evan Daudt doubled driving in his eighth run of the year and extending his hit streak to all seven games. Devin Mulligan singled driving in another run and for the second straight game threw out a would be base stealer," concluded Coach Vagle.
