Norikane hired as county's chief financial officer
She will replace retiring chief financial officer Larry Wolfe, who was hired to oversee the county's record keeping in the auditor's office in 1994.
Responsibilities were added to his position through the years until he was named the county's first chief financial officer in 2007.
Norikane holds a bachelor of business-accountancy from Western Illinois University and has been a certified public accountant since 1999. She worked for the state of Illinois and for two private businesses in Colorado before joining McMahan and Associates LLC in Avon, Colo., in 1998.
She currently is audit manager for McMahan, where she is responsible for auditing local governments and special taxing districts for their compliance with Colorado and federal regulations.
She and her husband, Joel, have vacationed at Leech Lake for many years. He plans to shift his fishing guide business from trout streams in Colorado to the bigger fish in Leech Lake, she wrote in an attachment to her job application.
Norikane is one of 16 people who applied for the Cass County position and one of five whom commissioners Dick Downham and Neal Gaalswyk interviewed before recommending the board appoint her.
