Muriel was born September 23, 1918 in Halstad, Minn., to Iver and Louise (Nervig) Lien. In 1921 her family moved to Brevik's Landing on Leech Lake where they have owned and operated Lien's Resort until the present. Muriel began her education at the Bow School in Brevik, and completed high school in Halstad. Muriel remained at the resort her entire life, thus making it the oldest family owned resort on Leech Lake. Muriel was a caregiver, and spent her life lovingly tending to the needs of others. She was a member at Salem Lutheran Church in Longville, and taught Sunday School for many years. Throughout her lifetime Muriel enjoyed sewing, doing crafts, bird watching, as well as cooking and baking, particularly Scandinavian foods. She also liked to spend time traveling, and visiting over the phone. Muriel was an organized, and well-read woman who had a wealth of knowledge and wisdom she generously shared with others. She was someone who saw the good in everyone and was quick to love and extend forgiveness. Her thoughtfulness and soft heart will be missed, and her footprint in the Brevik community will not be forgotten.

Muriel is survived by her nieces and nephews; Neoma (Emerson) Stahl, Cheryl (Steven) Lorimer, Marilyn (Buzz) Lilyquist, Gwen Workman-Welk, Charlotte Wesen, Richard (Faye) Welk, Judy Gravelle, Donald Welk, Ronald (Sonia) Welk, cousins; Alfred "Bud" (Gail) Melting, Joann (Wayne) Phipps, several great nieces and nephews, and several great great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents;two brothers;Inus and Iver, two sisters; Tina Dahly, and Estelle Welk, and a nephew John Welk.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m., on Monday, July 26, 2010 at Salem Lutheran Church in Longville with Pastor John Monson officiating. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery, Longville.
