HACKENSACK - Memorial services will be 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 18, 2010, at the Theater at Pine River Place, 1354 24th Street SW in Pine River for Melvin E. Rateike, age 65, of Hackensack, who died Monday, Dec. 13, 2010, at St. Cloud Hospital. The Rev. Michael Small will officiate. Arrangements were made by Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, Sauk Rapids.

Melvin was born Jan. 17, 1945 in Elmhurst, Ill., to Melvin Sr. and Irene (Lesberg) Rateike. He married Debbie Wolfe on Dec. 17, 1988, in Wonewoc, Wis. Melvin was a police officer for the City of Hackensack, retiring in 2007. He also served as mayor of Hackensack for the past two years. Melvin enjoyed fishing and was very proud of his family and loved spending time with all of them.

Survivors include his wife of almost 22 years, Debbie, of Hackensack; children, Brenda (Gary) Fleahman, of Ramsey, Betsy (Brian) Moe, of Monticello, Michael (Teresa) Timmons, of Park Rapids, Chad Rateike (Shiloha Mohlin), of Monticello, Robin (Tim) Hocking, Jeff Rateike and Chad Rateike, all of Wisconsin; stepmother, Evelyn Rateike, of Palatine, Ill.; sisters, Pat (Henry) Diebold, of Illinois, Margie (Joe) Schelpet, of Texas; brother, Bob Rateike, of Portage, Mich.; 20 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
