Lois (Brownlie) Fisher was born on a farm near Patterson, IA on November 1, 1917 to Agnes Landt Brownlie and Alva William Brownlie and grew up in Martensdale, IA. Lois attended Simpson College in Indianola, IA and Mankato State University and Bemidji State College. She also lived and worked in California, Washington, Colorado, Illinois, South Dakota and Minnesota, in a variety of occupations, including lab work in World War II, farming, bookkeeping, and teaching in grades 1-12. Lois started the special education programs in the Sleepy Eye, Deer River, and Remer-Longville school systems. Lois and her husband John purchased land on Lake Wabedo in 1954, moving to the Longville area in 1965, out to their home on the lake in 1970 and on to Pine River in 1997. Lois died on July 24, 2010, in Angola, Indiana, while visiting her daughter Joleen, from complications following a stroke.

Lois enjoyed singing, walking in the woods, canoeing, reading, and traveling throughout this country and the world, beginning her traveling adventures with her husband John, when they moved from Iowa to California in 1940 on a Harley Davidson motorcycle, their belongings in saddlebags and a suitcase tied to the back. She was very active physically, from playing basketball in high school, through playing croquet and miniature golf for her 90th birthday, to last summer canoeing and climbing a ladder to see a 2nd story loft in the cabin at the lake.

Survived by sister Laurel Hnatovic and daughters Pamela Hanold and Joleen Haataja and son David Douglas Fisher and grandchildren Terry, Timothy, Joya, Joel, Michael, and great-grandchildren Brigette, Mateo, Nation, Dominic, Lucia and Pierce. Preceded in death by 2 brothers and 5 sisters and her husband, Rev. John K. Fisher.

There will be a small Memorial service for family and friends on Saturday, August 14, at the family home on Lake Wabedo which Lois loved so much. Anyone interested can contact David Fisher for more information.
