Lady Eagles wrap up regular season in Tiger town

The regular season came to a close last week with a pair of match-ups against Blackduck and Pine River. Seniors Chloe Wolske and Keyana Gross were honored during Parents Night festivities prior to tip off against the Blackduck Drakes.

It would be the final home game for both Seniors and the team would put four players in double digit scoring in a hard fought contest. Despite the offensive charge, the girls would come up a handfull short at 67-72.

"The girls played a good game, we just came out on the short end. It was Parent's Night and dinner before the game. I'd like to acknowledge all the parents and fans for your continued support for the girls, it means a great deal to all of us." Commented Head Coach Jenny Kovall.

Wolske led the offense with 22 points, seven boards and 3 steals. Kali Wake had another strong showing with a double-double effort of 21 points, 10 boards and six steals. Kristine Johnson added 14 points, five take-aways and Gross put in 10 points and came down with four boards.

The girls would next travel to Pine River to take on the 35th state ranked Tigers. The ladies hung in tough and held a three point lead with seven minutes left in the first half, when a bad call gave Wake her third foul, when in fact, it was her second. This took the wind out of the Eagles sails and led to a lengthy Tiger run that the girls were unable to overcome. The final score of 46-76 fails to tell the true tale of the tape.

After reviewing the game film, a foul by #10 on the Tigers was attributed to #10 Wake.

"Kali was playing great ball and rebounding hard when they hit her with that extra foul, it really changed the momentum of the game and when you're playing a team of this caliber, mistakes like that really hurt," commented Coach Kovall.

The girls were able to cut the Tiger lead to nine in the second half. With the extra foul, Wake was not able to attack the boards as aggressively on defense and eventually fouled out of the game.

Wolske again led the charge with 17 points, Wake followed with 11, Johnson and Gross each added eight and Lexi Green put in two.[[In-content Ad]]
