Lady Eagles struggle at Deer River; victorious at Little Fork-Big Falls
"We missed too many lay-ups and free throws in the first half and dug ourselves a 14 point hole," commented Coach Jenny Kovall.
"We were out rebounded, an area we need to continue to work on. We have a great group of players and as their experience grows, so will their confidence and ability."
Sierra Likens led the team, once again, scoring over a third of the final tally with 11 points and 5 boards with 9 steals. Tori Howard followed up with 8 points and Kori Dunham with 5.
With their rebounding woes in the rear view mirror, the girls traveled to Little Fork-Big Falls in their second conference matchup of the week. The girls came away from the long road trip with their first win of the season, besting LFBF 53-41.
"We did a much better job of rebounding and giving ourselves second chances. We had some nice fast breaks and communicated better on defense," said Coach Kovall.
Likens earned her first double-double of 21 points and 12 steals. Dunham added to the Lady Eagle defensive effort with 8 steals of her own and 16 points on the board.
The rebounding was key with Nikina Gross with 8; Abby Burch and Lizzie Procopio each with a half-dozen. Howard with 5, followed by Likens with 4.
The girls will host their home opener Thursday against the Hill City Hornets. Varsity game time is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.[[In-content Ad]]
