Lady Eagles step up with a pair of wins

The Northland Lady Eagles have continued to improve on both sides of the basketball over the course of the season. The girls are currently ranked 16th out of 189 teams in single A ball in the state offensively, averaging 67 points per outing, and the defense has become more consistent as the season progresses.

Monday, January 26 the ladies played host to Northome, and despite a slim 44-22 lead at halftime, the girls would stretch out that lead to 80-68 by the final buzzer.

Kristine Johnson would lead the team with her first career triple-double scoring 25 points, bringing down 12 boards and turning the Mustang offense 12 times. Chloe Wolske put in 24 points, six boards and four assists. Keyanna Gross added 15 points and 14 rebounds; Kali Wake's well-rounded game added 13 points, 10 boards, four steals and six assists.

With only 24 hours to rest, the girls next traveled to Nashwauk. Earlier in the season the girls were able to take the Spartans by 10, with more experience and a stronger defense the difference this time would be 20, 71-51.

Wolske continued to rack up the career totals with 30 points and seven steals. Gross put in 13 points and came down with nine boards; Johnson added 10 points, five rebounds and five steals and Dakota Carstens scored eight with five boards.

"We really played well on the road tonight! We were up by as much as 27 at one point, I'm really proud of their effort and they earned a two day break." Glowed Head Coach Jenny Kovall.

The Lady Eagles will return to the court Tuesday, Feb. 7 to take on the Nevis Tigers at the Target Center in Minneapolis.[[In-content Ad]]
