Lady Eagles split two coming out of break

The Lady Eagles emerged from the holiday break ready to hit the ground running. The ladies first had to take care of a Dec. makeup game with Little Fork/Big Falls on Sat., Jan. 2. The girls came out strong and built up a half time lead 30-19. They would score another 23 in the second half, unfortunately the Vikings would score 39 to put the game away at 58-53.

"We held up well until the last couple of minutes. They threw on a press and we did not hold our composure very well. Had we played a little more disciplined the last four minutes we would have won the game." Commented Head Coach Jenny Kovall.

"The girls know what needs to be done and now we will learn from it and move on. All in all it was a solid game but we need to play 36 minutes, not 32. We're getting closer every game."

Maddy Shepard led the offense with 16 points and came down with five rebounds. Kali Wake added 10 points and 11 boards. Kristine Johnson put up 10 points, five take-aways, five assists and seven boards.

Going into Jan. 4, the girls had been battling injuries and in need of a win. Both the offense and defense stepped up and the girls were able to stay on top of Cass Lake.

"The girls needed a win and we got one!" Said Coach Kovall.

They have been working hard and this is what we needed. The defensive pressure was good, forcing 25 turnovers and Johnson racked up a season high on offense."

Johnson put up 30 points and nine steals; Shepard added 22 points, 4 boards and five take-aways. Dakota put in 11. Lauren Tschida added three and Taylor Tschida put in two with a pair of steals. Greene also put in two.

" I really think once we all get healthy, more 'w's will come our way. I commend them on their continued hard work and determination even though things aren't going exactly how they would like right now," concluded Coach Kovall.

The girls host Greenway on Thursday; Onamia on Saturday and Chisholm on Monday. JV games begin at 5:45 p.m. with varsity games following.[[In-content Ad]]
