Lady Eagles split last weeks hardwood action
"The score doesn't reflect it, but we did a lot of positive things. It is going to take some time and patience to get the team meshing and playing at the level I know we're capable of," said Coach Kovall.
"If we can take something from each game and improve and learn, then we will be successful. This early in the season our shooting percentage is much lower than we are capable of, we just need to slow down and keep our focus a bit more."
Sierra Likens led the offense with 12 points, 4 rebounds and 7 steals on defense. Kori Dunham followed with 10 points; Lizzie Procopio added 6 with 7 boards and Abby Burch chipped in 7 rebounds and a pair of steals.
The girls continued their improvement when they hosted conference foes Hill City on Thursday night, coming away with a solid 66-38 win over the Hornets.
"We have our spurts of great play, such as the first 5 minutes of play when we went up 12-0, but we need to be more consistent. I'm really proud of Sierra (Likens), she played outstanding, scoring a career high 27 points, 12 steals and 7 assists. She has really stepped up her level of play and always gives me 150 percent. She's fun to coach and I have to believe a lot of fun to watch," commented Coach Kovall.
Other leaders include Tori Howard, who came on strong in the second half, to score 15 points, 6 boards and 3 steals. Dunham dropped in 10 points, led the team with 9 boards, and added 4 steals. Procopio and Brittney Nornberg snagged 7 boards each and Bruch, Tori Howard and Nikina Gross added 6 rebounds a-piece.
The girls will host Nashwauk-Keewatin tonight before a Christmas break. They will return to the hardwood Tuesday, December 28 for the Walker-Hackensack-Akeley Tournament. Varsity game time is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. Tournament game time TBD.[[In-content Ad]]
