The Northland Lady Eagles returned to the hardwood after a break for the holidays. Concentrating on reducing turnovers, the girls entered the new year with new hopes and expectations for the remainder of the season.

The first game of the new year found the girls just down the road in Pine River. Despite reduced turnovers and better ball handling, cold shooting led to the Lady Eagles loss 28-75.

"They have a nice veteran ball club, we just did not show up to play. We handled their press and had plenty of shots, we just had a cold shooting hand and forgot to play defense," commented Head Coach Jenny Kovall.

Kori Dunham led the team with 10 points and three take-aways. Abby Burch followed with eight points and eight rebounds while Chloe Wolske added six points and a pair of steals.

The basketball Gods smiled on the Lady Eagles in Bigfork, the turnovers fell and so did the buckets as the girls came away with a 52-45 win.

"We had a vastly improved intensity from our game with Pine River. Our defense stepped up and gave the girls much needed confidence. I thought Abby (Burch) played a real nice game. The whole team did well with free throws down the stretch, I'm really proud of their effort," said Coach Kovall.

This time Burch led the girls with 17 points, 10 boards and four take-aways. Dunham followed with 13 points, five rebounds and six steals. Lizzie Procopio made her presence felt with nine points and 11 rebounds followed by Wolske with eight points and four steals.[[In-content Ad]]Saturday night found the girls hosting Onamia. The Lady Eagles rode a 16 point halftime lead to cruise to a 55-43 final score.

"The girls played another great defensive game, lots of hustle and hard work paid off! Abby dominated under the boards and played great on offense." Said Coach Kovall.

Burch led with 22 points, followed by Dunham with 15. Nakina Gross added 10 and Procopoi four.

"This was great defense by the entire team, but Lizzie's (Procopio) was superior tonight! Hopefully we can carry this intensity over to the remaining games. I really like what I'm seeing out of the team right now," concluded Coach Kovall.

The girls travel to Laporte on the 12th and Greenway on the 19th.
