Lady Eagles outpace conference rivals for a pair of road wins
Likens sets single season steal record
The girls first win of the week came on Tuesday as they downed the Raiders of Greenway 58-43.
Kori Dunham led the Lady Eagles with 21 points, five boards and a pair of take-aways. Guard Sierra Likens followed with 19 points and seven steals. And Abby Burch rounded out the top scorers with eight points and a team leading 11 rebounds.
Bigfork can be a difficult house to come into, the girls fought through some rough stretches to come out on top of the Huskies by a single point 57-56.
"This was a big conference win for us," said Coach Jenny Kovall.
"It wasn't always pretty, but the girls did not give up and pulled out a huge road win. It is easy as a coach to pick out all the things we did wrong, but we have been doing a lot of things right! Our goal right now is to continue to get stronger inside and more consistent in our play as we head into playoff time," continued Coach Kovall.
Likens headed up the offensive charge with 16 points and seven steals. Dunham followed with 12 points and Tori Howard with 11 points and five boards.[[In-content Ad]]
Lizzie Procopio nearly carded a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds.
"Lizzie has been working hard in practice and I think she played a nice game," commented Coach Kovall.
Likens broke the single season steal record last held by Lexi Putnam-Daniels in the '06-'07 season of 133 take-aways. Likens now sits at 140 steals and counting.
The girls will host East Central tonight (Tuesday) and will travel to Onamia on Saturday. In a Monday night match-up, the girls will travel to Nevis Feb. 7. Varsity tip-off is at 7:15.
