The Northland Lady Eagles traveled to Cass Lake last Monday to kick off a busy week against a tough Panther team on their home court. Although the Panthers gave up the ball 25 times, easy baskets and a lack of momentum set the girls back on offense with the final tally at 81-64.

"Everything they threw up went in - our pressure was good and resulted in 25 steals, but then we would give up an easy lay-up to stop any momentum we had going," said Coach Jenny Kovall.

The Lady Eagles put four into double figures scoring, with Sierra Likens leading the way with a double-double effort of 12 points and 12 rebounds. Kori Dunham followed with 13 points, four rebounds and four steals. Nakina Gross had 12 points and six boards followed by Tori Howard with 10 points and six boards.

Tuesday would dawn a different day for the girls as the Blackduck Lady Drakes came to Remer for a non-conference match-up. This time the girls put five players into double digits, a pair of double-doubles and renewed enthusiasm. The Lady Eagles more than doubled-up the Drakes with a decisive 90-40 win.

"We came back strong - I told them before the game, no matter what, the hustle and 110% effort has to be there, and it was! Not to mention some hot hands. We shot 44% from 3-point range resulting in 42 points. It was a lot of fun to see them get hot and gain valuable confidence tonight," commented Coach Kovall.

Dunham led the Lady Eagle charge with 20 points. Likens followed up with 18 points. Brittney Nornberg scored a career high 18 points with five 3-pointers from the same spot. Howard scored 17 points with seven boards and Abby Burch landed her first varsity double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Concluding a busy week, the girls hosted Laporte. Hoping to end the week on a positive note, the girls again came out firing on all cylinders and again more than doubled-up the opposition with a 68-26 win.

"Laporte is down quite a bit this year, they had to try a lot of different line ups, it's nice to end the week on a positive note with a couple of nice wins," said Coach Kovall.

Likens led the effort with a season high 15 steals to go with her 20 points. Dunham added 15 points and five steals followed by Howard with 11 points and eight boards. Burch continued her fine play with 14 rebounds and seven points. Gross added six points with eight boards and five steals while Lizzie Procopio chipped in five points and seven rebounds.

The girls will are on the road against Greenway next Tuesday and take another shot at Bigfork on Thursday, Jan. 27th. Varsity tip-off is at 7:15.
