Lady Eagles improve conference record to 6-2

The Northland Lady Eagles returned to the hardwood to take on their conference rival Greenway in an attempt to stop a short losing streak in front of the home crowd. The girls put up a good first half and it was good enough to carry out the game toppling the Raiders 52-47.

"This was a great first half for the girls, not so beautiful the second half, but we won a good conference game putting us 6-2 in conference play," stated Coach Jenny Kovall.

Abby Burch continues her fine play with 18 points and 10 rebounds to head up the Lady Eagle offense. Sierra Likens carded 16 points, seven boards and 13 steals. Tori Howard added nine points to the total.

"We have been very up and down this year because of inexperience, so we are staying focused on the positives. Our conference play has been good and if we can win our last two in-conference match-ups, we will be runners-up this year," added Coach Kovall.

Thursday night found the girls hosting the Isle Huskies. The inexperience and lack of depth showed against a much deeper and experienced team leading to the ladies 37-81 loss.

"Isle has a nice team this year, they deserve a lot of credit. We played hard at times but fatigue got the best of us affecting our defense and our shooting percentages," said Coach Kovall.

Brittney Nornberg led the way for the ladies with 13 points followed by Likens with an even dozen to go with eight steals. Lizzie Procopio came down with eight boards.

The girls host Deer River tonight (Tuesday) before traveling to Hill City on Thursday. Varsity tip-off is at 7:15.[[In-content Ad]]
