Lady Eagles hit full stride to end regular season
Abby Burch and Kori Dunham continued their solid shooting into the home contest against Pillager racking up 22 and 19 points respectively en-route to a 64-24 drubbing of the Huskies.
"This was a great effort by the whole team," stated Head Coach Jenny Kovall, "we played excellent defense and held them to 10 points in the second half! Kori and Chloe (Wolske) set the stage for defense and kept up the pressure into the next two games as well."
Burch added 11 boards to complete her double-double, Dunham had seven take-aways and Wolske added eight.[[In-content Ad]]The girls next traveled to Deer River to redeem an earlier season home loss. The final buzzer told the tale as the girls went home with a 61-41 win over the Warriors.
"To win by 20 on their court after a 3-point loss earlier this season felt good for all of us," commented Coach Kovall.
Burch kept up the scoring with 28 points and 18 rebounds. Dunham followed with a dozen, as did Nikina Gross. Lizzie Procopio ended the contest with 15 boards.
The girls saved their best team effort for Parent's Night and the last home game of the regular season. Firing on all cylinders, they posted a 73-45 shillacing of Hill City.
"This was a great atmosphere for our last home game, the band was fabulous, the fan support was great and a big thank you to the parent's for their support throughout the season. Dunham and Wolske turned on the defense and combined for 18 take-aways and 34 team steals!" Commented Coach Kovall.
Dunham led the team with 25 points, six assists and eight steals. Wolske followed with 20 points and 10 steals. Burch added 17 points and a dozen boards. Gross retrieved 11 errant shots.
"This was the lowest turnover night I have ever had (4)," said Coach Kovall.
"I'm really proud of Chloe, this is the best I've seen her play and couldn't have come at a better time to give her the confidence she needs for next season. This was her first Varsity double-double."
The Lady Eagles finished the season with a fury, winning six of their final 7 games. With hot shooting hands, low turnovers and strong defense, the girls hit full stride heading into the playoffs.
