The Northland Lady Eagles returned to the hardwood after the holiday break to host conference opponent Bigfork in the 2013 opener. Despite outscoring the Huskies in the second half, the girls fell by 10, 52-42.

"This was a close game all the way,' said Head Coach Jenny Kovall, 'we played decent defense, we just needed more kids to step up and score some points."

Abby Burch led the offense with 18 and brought down 10 rebounds. Lizzie Procopio followed with 10 points and seven boards. The girls will meet the Huskies for a rematch on January 24 in Bigfork.

The girls turned the tide in a big way when they traveled to Onamia. Putting four players in double scoring figures, the Lady Eagles trounced the Panthers 70-27.

"Abby couldn't buy a basket, but still ended up with 13, the rest of the team really stepped up and scored," commented Coach Kovall.

Chloe Wolske led the rout with 17 points and seven steals. Burch followed with 13 points. Procopio added a dozen and 11 rebounds. Kristine Johnson put up 10 points.

"Four girls in double digits is exactly what we have been looking for. We played a nice defensive game with 18 steals and only allowing 27 points," added Coach Kovall.

The Lady Eagles traveled to Cass Lake last Monday to take on another Panther team and despite putting up 60 points, they came up short 83-60.

"We didn't play a bad game, 60 points is enough to win most of the time, they were just on fire! Everything they threw up seemed to go in. We had a few lapses where we didn't get on them, but even when we did, they still drained the shots. It was just one of those nights," said Coach Kovall.

Burch led with an impressive 29 points and 18 rebounds followed by Procopio with another double-double of 11 points and 11 boards. Wolske and Burch accounted for nine of the team's 14 steals.

In one of the more lop sided victories, the girls introduced the Laporte Wildcats to the woodshed in a 62-15 drumming.

Burch turned in a career performance scoring 39 points, two shy of the school record of 41. Adding 18 boards and three steals. Wolske added nine points and six steals. Procopio brought down 10 boards, three steals, three assists to go with a pair of points.

The girls next game is Thursday in a home match-up against Greenway. Then again next Tuesday, away vs. McGregor. Tip off is at 7:15 p.m.[[In-content Ad]]
