Lady Eagles finish week high with win over Greenway Raiders
The game was knotted at 38 each at intermission but the shots would not fall for the girls in the final minutes of the match-up and the score at the buzzer found the girls at the short end of a 65-75 final score.
"This was a fun experience for both our teams! We had over 150 fans and parents at the game to cheer us on! The kids got to take in the Timberwolves game Friday night and stay overnight for the game Saturday. It was certainly a bummer to lose, but glad I could help the girls get this experience." Commented Head Coach Jenny Kovall.
Wolske continued to dominate offensively with 27 points, five boards and four assists. Kristine Johnson put in 15 points, four rebounds and four steals. Kali Wake added 10 with nine boards and Keyana Gross chipped in nine with nine rebounds.
The team wishes Maddy Shepard a speedy recovery from ACL surgery.
There may have been a bit of a letdown after the battle at the Target Center as cold shooting descended on the team resulting in a 60-77 loss to McGregor.
Wolske went on a tear on offense putting up 62% of the Lady Eagles points (37) and adding five take-aways and five boards to her ever more impressive totals. Johnson put in a dozen with eight steals and six rebounds. Gross and Dakota Carstens added four points each.
"I truly believe we are the better team in this match-up, but as a whole, we didn't perform to our capabilities," commented Coach Kovall.
When it came time to take on the Greenway Raiders, a pregame pep talk about defensive intensity seemed to spark the girls into a much more inspired defense and the girls held the Raiders to just three lonely points in the first half and ran away with the final 60-17.
"We have been a little sluggish lately and needing to pick it up under the boards. Hopefully this win will put us back on track," said Coach Kovall.
Wolske and Wake teamed up to put in 19 points each, with Wolske adding seven steals on defense and five assists, Wake would come down with nine rebounds. Johnson double-double effort of 11 points, 12 take-aways, six assists and six rebounds. Gross would add nine points and nine boards.
The girls will have a busy week hosting Deer River Tuesday, traveling to Hill City on Thursday, Sebeka on Saturday and back home again next Tuesday to take on the Blackduck Drakes. Varsity games tip off at 7 p.m.[[In-content Ad]]
