The Northland Lady Eagles returned to the hardwood with long time head coach Jenny Kovall, to host a veteran starting lineup from conference opponent Deer River. This year, without the offense of graduated senior Abby Burch.

First game jitters were evident as the girls lost the handle on the ball too many times in the first half of action. Even with loose ball handling, the girls held the gap to two points at intermission. The experience of the Warriors and cool shooting by the Lady Eagles led to a 50-38 loss at the final buzzer.

"This group has so much room to grow, it will be exciting to see them progress throughout the season," commented Coach Kovall.

The Lady Eagles have a number of returning players this season, lending their experience to the newest additions to the team. Chloe Wolske led the charge against the Warriors with 11 points on offense and a pair of boards; Kristine Johnson added seven; Keyanna Gross and Angie Rajdl each tossed in six. Gross led under the glass with nine rebounds followed by Makendra Anderson's eight and Kali Wake's seven.

The Lady Eagles next welcomed the Vikings from Little Fork/Big Falls (LFBF), the second conference opponent in as many days.

"The score doesn't show it, but this was a much improved game. We cut our turnovers way down from the Deer River game and we were only down by 10 at the half. LFBF is the top team in our conference with a great deal of experience," said Coach Kovall.

Wolske again set the bar on offense with 17 points and added five take-aways. Wake chipped in seven and brought down 10 rebounds and six steals; Rajdl put down five with seven boards and Gross came down with a dozen off the boards.

The girls take to the court again Thursday as they travel to Hill City and again on Tuesday hosting Nashwauk-Keewatin.[[In-content Ad]]
