Lady Eagles continue solid defense, struggle under the hoop

The Lady Eagles spent a tough stretch battling not only the flu, but missed opportunities on the offensive side of the ball. The girls traveled to Nashwauk looking to break a short losing streak and take advantage of some of those missed opportunities. Tuesday was not to be their night and the Lady Eagles dropped a third straight game to the Spartans 47-39.

"We had our chances many times in this game,' Commented Head Coach Jenny Kovall, 'we're still learning how to step it up and take advantage of the opportunities we are given."

Abby Burch and Kali Wake led the offense with 13 points each. Wake brought down 14 rebounds, Lizzie Procopio grabbed 10 while Burch added eight. The girls played hard on defense with 17 team take-aways.

"Kali reached her first Varsity double-double, it was a great game by her, it's fun to watch young talent progress," added Coach Kovall.

In a battle of the Eagles, the girls next hosted the Eagles of East Central High School. Despite a strong start and an early second half lead, the girls struggled with turnovers late and fell 51-35.

"We started well and played good defense throughout, but poor decision making is killing us. We make excellent defensive plays, then it gets away from us, it's frustrating, but we're making progress," concluded Coach Kovall.

Burch led the girls with 16 points and 11 boards. Wake added five steals to the Lady Eagles tally.

The girls next travel to Floodwood on Thursday and away on Monday vs. Park Rapids. Varsity tip-off is 7:15 p.m.[[In-content Ad]]
