Lady Eagles battle tough conference opponents and illness
Tuesday, February 17 had the girls hosting the Warriors of Deer River. Kali Wake and Kristine Johnson carried the bulk of the offiese, but it was not enough as the girls would come up on the short end of the 61-74 final score.
Wake led the Eagle charge with 18 points, nine boards and four steals, with Johnson close behind with 18 points nine rebounds and three assists. Chloe Wolske would add 12 points with 8 rebounds and three assists. Keyana Gross put down five points and seven boards; Lexi Greene put in three along with six rebounds and Dakota Carstens finished with two points.
"This has been a tough week for our team - battling flu and strep. Just bad timing with two conference games this week." Commented Head Coach Jenny Kovall. "We had some bright moments, but it's tough with the entire lineup sick."
It was the same story on Thursday with the girls on the road again to Hill City. With stomachs in knots and stamina low, the girls finished the game down 45-64.
"They played as hard as they could and never quit, the illness really zapped their stamina." Said Coach Kovall.
Wolske led the way with 13 points, followed by Johnson with 10. Wake put in nine; Gross seven; Carstens four and Greene two.
"They will all get healthy again and we'll be back in form next week," concluded Coach Kovall.
The Lady Eagles have until tonight (Tuesday) to get as better as they can. Parents Night begins at 4:45 in the cafeteria with dinner, grandparents welcome, too. The girls will then take on the Drakes from Blackduck.
Friday will see the ladies host the Pine River-Backus Tigers, varsity tip-off is 7 p.m.[[In-content Ad]]
