Jeff was born June 20, 1955 in Sumner, IA. He graduated from Remer High School in 1973. Before and after graduation, Jeff worked for Lakehead Construction until 1981 at which time he began working for Minnesota Power in the scrubber and before retirement in 2015 reaching the position of Unit 4 Production Coordinator.
Jeff loved to fish, hunt, and work not necessarily in that order. He was a true fish whisperer and well schooled in the "old days." He lived to be outdoors and was knowledgeable in all the plants and animals around him. He embraced his native heritage and was proud to be an elder of the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe.
Jeff is survived by his wife of 41 years, Heidi, two daughters, Lindsay and Ellie (Doug), and one son, Nicholas (Molly), 5 grandchildren, Patrick, Oskar, Olivia, Michael, and Eva, 1 great-grandchild, Easton, his brother, Scott, 57 niecesĀ and nephews, and many, many more family and friends.
Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Barbara Johnson, grandparents, Oscar and Marguerite and Lee and Margaret Shoemaker, as well as aunts and uncles who were always like brothers and sisters to him.
Services were held Saturday, December 14, 2019 at the Carroll Funeral Home in Deer River, MN.
