James Allen Seybold, age 84, of Cohasset passed away on Monday, Feb. 22, 2016.

Jim was born on Nov. 23rd, 1931 in Milwaukee, Wis., spending his early childhood years in Milwaukee.

He attended Waukesha High School where he met the love of his life, Donna (Genrich). After graduation, Jim joined the Air Force and was stationed at Truax Air Force Base in Madison, Wis., where he worked as a security guard for two years.

Jim then returned to Milwaukee and he and Donna were married on Nov. 29, 1952.

They were blessed with one son, Jeffrey, on May 8, 1959.

Jim worked as a milkman and journeyman carpenter during the early years of his marriage to Donna, and they enjoyed life on Genesee Lake until 1971, when they bought beautiful North Star Resort in Boy River, Minn., from Donna's parents, Cliff and Gladys Genrich, who had bought the resort in 1957.

Jim and Donna ran the resort for almost 10 years, making wonderful memories for many friends and families, and garnering respect of loyal customers until they sold North Star in 1980. Sadly, on Jan. 25, 1981, Jim and Donna learned of the death of their only child, Jeffrey, who died in a drowning accident while stationed in Hawaii serving his county in the Navy. This was a loss of huge proportion, but their faith in God and the love and support from others assisted them through the intense grief they both experienced.

In 1986, Jim and Donna moved to California, where Jim worked as a carpenter and in multiple management positions with Pacific International Rice Mills, a Minnesota business that relocated to the area, which was eventually purchased by Anheuser Busch.

Following retirement in 1991, Jim and Donna yearned to return to the state of Minnesota, and found an empty lake lot on Sand Lake, north of Grand Rapids. It was here where they built their retirement lake home in 1991 and enjoyed their remaining years together until Donna's passing in November of 2008.

After Donna's passing, Jim was befriended by many wonderful people in the area who spent time with him. Tim and Christie Graupmann and their family, and Larry Aslpin, Jim and Donna's friend and neighbor on Sand Lake, became good friends of Jim's and brought him great joy and companionship in his final years. Jim also shared a special bond with his great niece, Josie, and his niece, Claire.

Jim loved life and truly lived it to the fullest. He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, fishing, hunting, birdwatching and mowing the lawn on his "Harley." A truly one-of-a-kind person, he charmed everyone with his honesty, integrity, and quick wit. He will be deeply missed by many.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Donna; and their son, Jeffrey.

He is survived by two nieces: Kaleen (Bill Radtke) Morkin and Claire Morkin; three great nieces: Kasey Radtke, Gabby Radtke and Josie Morkin; cousins and many wonderful friends.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 2 at 10 a.m. followed by a service at 11 a.m. at the Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids, followed by burial with military honors at Itasca Calvary Cemetery.
