James Allan Ulseth, 85, passed away at his winter home in Arizona on February 12, 2016.

Jim was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on January 14, 1931 to Anders and Helene Ulseth, who had emigrated from Norway in the early part of the 20th century. He lived in Minneapolis until he was 7 and then moved to northern Minnesota to the town of Remer where he lived on a farm.

Jim entered the U.S. Army in 1948 immediately after he graduated from high school. Once he completed his basic training, his eventual assignment was at Ft. Lewis, Washington. Subsequently, a small cadre of his unit was transferred to Camp Hanford to run a radar battalion. That fortuitous transfer led him to Richland, Washington where he met the love of his life, Ruby Knisley, at a dance on the banks of the Columbia River. They married one year later on September 29, 1951. Jim went to work at Hanford for about a year. In 1953, Jim and his family moved to Minneapolis where he attended the University of Minnesota, graduating with a degree in Geology in 1959.

After graduation, Jim and his family relocated back to the Tri-Cities, where they settled in Richland. He worked at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation for the next 25 years.

Jim had a passion for living and enjoyed many activities with his family and friends throughout his life such as camping, boating, fishing, hunting, music, snowmobiling, cruising, and traveling back to his home town of Remer to celebrate the Harvest Festival. But most of all, he loved sharing stories and jokes that his family and friends will forever cherish.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Irene and Shirley. He is survived by his loving wife, Ruby, of 64 years. He was blessed with four daughters: Judy (Mike) Wells, Denise (Bryan) Motsenbocker, Patty Norris, and Sandy Button. He considered himself to be the luckiest father, grandfather and great-grandfather and is survived by his grandchildren-Erika (Michael) Resch, Michael (Stephanie) Button, Jon (Maggie) Norris, James (Sarah) Motsenbocker, Alison (Jerred) Erickson, Matt (Shaley) Wells, Kristen (Simon) Bahr, Stephanie Button, and Courtney Button. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren-Lucy Norris, Aiden Erickson, Collin Motsenbocker and Claire Motsenbocker.

In addition, he is survived by his brother Robert (Judith) Ulseth, Carol (Jerry) Anschutz, and Nancy (Dennis) Stefan and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Jim in Washington and Minnesota at a later date. In the meantime, he's going fishing.[[In-content Ad]]
