Jack Earl Huston

BACKUS Jack Earl Huston, 76, passed away at his home on Saturday, July 24, 2010 with his family by his side. Jack was born on December 17, 1933 in Sartell, MN to Earl and Verna (Bolz) Huston. He grew up in the St. Cloud area until the age of 12, then he and his family moved to Outing, MN. He attended high school in Remer and graduated in 1951. Following graduation he entered the United States Army and was stationed at Ft. Carson, CO. Jack served as a medic during the Korean war and was discharged in 1959. He was a member of the Backus Legion Post 368 for 13 years, a member of the Headwaters Shrine Club, a member of Shriners International, he was a 32nd degree Mason of Duluth, and he also belonged to the Bemidji Lodge 233 of the Free Masons of Minnesota. Following his service to his country Jack returned to Whipholt where he owned and operated Leech View Resort. He also managed Job Corp for many years during the 60's. Jack was an orderly at Ah-Gwah-Ching, he also managed Sleepy Hollow Supper Club and attended school to become a Cass County Sheriffs Department Deputy. He served on the department until his retirement in 1991. Jack married his friend Mary Ann on August 8, 1998 at Hope Lutheran Church in Walker, MN. Together they lived in Backus until his passing.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, step father George Pikus, and his first wife Phyllis, and a nephew Jacob Norwood.

He is survived by his wife Mary Ann of Backus, children; John (Jerri) Huston of Walker, Tamra Huston of Pine River, Greg (Lora) Huston of Blaine, MN, special family friend Mark (Roxanne) Olson of Walker, step brother and sister; Jerry Pikus and Dorothy Biskey both of Hill City, one half sister Georgia Weber of Emily, MN, grandchildren; Chris, Ryan, Adam, Katie, Megan and Jessica Huston.

Funeral Services for Jack will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 28, at Hope Lutheran Church with Rev. Phil Larsen officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 27 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Hope Lutheran Church and one hour prior to the service also at the church. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
