REMER -Irene Edith Godfrey, 94, died April 20, 2011, at Laurel Lodge, Remer, Minn.

Irene was born April 17, 1917, in Boy River, Minn., and attended Huset School in Boy River. She married Frank Godfrey April 9, 1935 and they lived in several palces, Remer, Oregon, Proctor and Boy River. She was a member of the Auxil of Boy River, worked for Green Thumb Delivery Meals and driving others to meals in Boy River. Irene and Frank were foster parents for 25 years and raised several children. She enjoyed gardening and especially loved her flowers and her dog Sasha.

Preceded in death by her husband, Frank; parents, Arthur and Josie Preble; brothers, Raymond and Ralph Preble; sisters, Loretta Preble and Leona Simpson; foster daughter, Patricia Monroe.

She is survived by son, Donald (Carol) Godfrey, Deer River; daughters, Ione (Larry) Sherman, Grand Rapids, daughter, Darlene (Richard) Marquardt; brother, Sherm Preble, Eveleth, Minn.; sister, Betty Hutt, Woodward, Iowa; 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 19 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a lot of friends.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 25, 2011 at Carroll Funeral Home, Deer River.
