Invest in their Future

To the Editor:

This is an answer to an Email that was circulated to many of us in our school district. It doesn't sound like the writer is in favor of our school at all. I live in Longville and absolutely hate the fact that we lost our school building, think it wasn't necessary at all. But I still know that there are kids out there that need a good education, a safe school to attend, and we have to think of them, not our old prejudices. Do we want our kids to be way behind when they go on to school elsewhere, or should we give them up to date classrooms and methods of learning? How many more years can we use the old building where the wind blows in around the windows? Every year that we put off building means it will cost just that much more the next go around. Somebody (many somebodies!) paid for us and our kids to have a school, and now it's our turn to educate the next generation. I would rather pay taxes to our own school district than loose our school and pay taxes to another district where our kids would be outsiders, that would not benefit our community at all. I believe that the school board has been studying this situation for a year or so, and I understand that there have been many attempts to explain this referendum to the people of the district. So I am asking you if you would please talk to the superintendent, or a school board member about your objections, and have them explained again to you before you poison the well, so to speak. I do not like raises in taxes, but I think this one is probably overdue. Why do we object when the benefit is for our kids, our next generation, and then shrug our shoulders when our government officials just take more and more taxes for things that don't benefit us at all? Sorry, but I though I had better speak up this time, I believe we owe it to our kids to vote for this referendum. It's not a vote for Remer, or Longville, or Boy River, or Outing, or Federal Dam, it's for School District #118, which is all of us, and we need to stand together this time.
