Hilma was born March 25, 1925 at home in Boone Lake Township, Minnesota to Leo and Bertha Rannow. She was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church and attended country school at Lakeside, Minnesota, Parochial school at St. John's Lutheran Church of Cedar Mills, Minnesota, and high school at Hutchinson, where she graduated in 1942. She went to Minnesota School of Business for a time and then worked in Banking at Howard Lake. She married Omer Duane Oestreich on May 26, 1946 in Hutchinson, Minnesota and they moved to Minneapolis where her husband worked in plumbing, and she began working at Marquette National Bank (now Wells Fargo), then Richfield State Bank, where she was one of the original employees in 1947. In 1953 they moved to Plymouth, Minnesota (having built their home with the help of her father Leo, a carpenter). They raised their children Randall, Diane, Nancy and Duane there. In 1955 she began part time work at Golden Valley State Bank until the children were all in school, when she started full time, until her retirement in 1989. She then moved to her current home on Blackwater Lake.
Hilma was very artistic and enjoyed most crafts, china painting, rug braiding, and anything involving a needle. She was a member of Remer Arts and Crafts for a number of years. She was also a member of the quilting group at Salem Lutheran and always active with a needle or brush. Hilma will be remembered as a caring, compassionate wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
Hilma is survived by her husband Omer of Longville, children; Randall (Patti) of Pillager, MN., Diane of Lakewood, CO., Nancy (James) Best of Askov, MN., Duane of Plymouth, MN., seven grandchildren (Justin, Neil, Heather, Jacob, Leah, Max, and Tyler) and five great-grandchildren (MacKenzie, Xavier, Bridger, Jericho, and Emma), and many nieces, nephews and close friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters; Laura Ciesinski, Anne Groehler, Alma Rannow, and Marlus Rannow.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 28, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Salem Lutheran Church in Longville with Rev. Bob Alley officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 P.M. on Thursday evening, January 27, 2011 at Salem Lutheran, and one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery.
