Hackensack Legion family
To the Editor,
The Legion Family donated over $16,400 to veterans programs including Veterans on the Lake, St. Cloud, Fergus Falls, Fargo and Minneapolis VA Medical Centers, American Legion Family and Auxiliary Hospital Associations, Armed Forces Service Center, Christmas gifts and baskets and Valentines gifts to veterans in our local area. The SAL recently installed a kneeling soldier silhouette on the Legion Post building to remind us of the sacrifices of our veterans. They also added an additional monument by the Hackensack Post Office for all Cass County veterans killed in action. As part of a memorial for Post 202 veterans who have passed away and/or other veterans buried at Hillcrest Cemetery, their names are added to the memorial stone at Hillcrest.
Children and Youth are very important and over $13,000 was donated for them. Donations were made to the Legion Family Children and Youth programs, Hackensack Children's Halloween Party, Fishing Contest, Sweetheart Days Carnival, Easter Egg Hunt, and Christmas Party. Additional donations were given to WHA students, the summer recreational program, Boys and Girls State, and Legionville Camp. This also included $8200 in scholarships.[[In-content Ad]]
The Hackensack area received $9000 in contributions. This included organizations such as the Hackensack First Responders, Firemen, Food Shelf, Senior Center, Community Center, Fireworks, Reward Fund, Warming House, HOWA Family Network, Cass County Crisis Line and Sheriff's Honor Guard and several others.
The Legion Family led the Hackensack Sweetheart Days Parade, provided Memorial Day and Veterans Day programs, and held a flag retirement ceremony. Along with the Hackensack Lions and Chamber of Commerce, the Legion sponsored the National Chainsaw Event. The first annual Pork In The Park event was also held.
Donations of over $1800 were given to support our active duty military as well as care packages were sent to area military serving overseas.
