Gull Lake Trail cooperative agreement extended for three years

BENA - Cass County commissioners voted Tuesday to extend a cooperative agreement for the Gull Lake Walking and Biking Trail with Crow Wing County; the cities of East Gull Lake and Nisswa, and Fairview Township.

The agreement was initiated in 2010 and extended in 2015. Tuesday's vote calls for another three-year extension.

Lake Shore, East Gull Lake and Fairview already have signed the extension.

Cass Highway Department moved a metal cold storage building to its Walker highway garage site. When the building was reassembled, the roof was bolted onto the frame where it needed to be attached rather than where old holes had been when the roof was attached at its prior location.

County Engineer Darrick Anderson told the county board Tuesday rainwater runs into the building through those old holes. He proposed replacing the roof with the lower of two bids from Srock Construction at a cost of $75,375.

The board also authorized Anderson to reinforce the floor in a small corner of that building and to create a heated and cooled small building within the building.

That area will then be used to store the county's election equipment, so the county can stop renting space from a private building owner for its election equipment.

Minnesota Custom Concrete will do the cement work for $3,418.65. Action Contacting will build the structure for $24,800. RW Electric will wire it for $3,282. Anderson Heating and Air Conditioning will install the heating and cooling system for $5,500.

The entire $38,850.65 project represents the lower of two quotes for each phase.

Knife River Materials submitted the lowest of four bids for a joint road improvement project with Cass County, the city of Walker and Shingobee Township at $4,798,132.33.

Pavement will be reclaimed, grading done, new pavement laid and culvert work done on county state aid highways 12, 38, 61 and 66 and some Shingobee town roads around Walker.
