Gladys Elnora Zeulow

b. Sept. 19, 1927 - d. Nov. 26, 2010

Gladys Elnora Zuelow, age 83, passed from this life into the arms of the Lord Jesus on November 29, 2010

She was born September 19, 1927 to Albert and Annie (Oien) Buan in Little Sauk Township, Todd County, Minn. She was confirmed in the Lutheran Church at Round Prairie on April 5, 1942. She attended country schools in Reynolds and Round Prairie and graduated from Long Prairie High School in 1945.

Gladys married Walter A. Zuelow on August 7, 1954. Walter had built Maple Leaf Resort at Sucker Bay on Leech Lake. Gladys never stopped loving the lakes and forests of northern Minnesota. For six years they spent spring, fall and summers working hard at Maple Leaf Resort. In 1960, they sold the resort and purchased Terry Motel in Wadena, which they sold in 1981. After moving to town, Gladys was able to become more active in groups and organizations, and also worked part time at Harnish's dress shop for a few years, was a member of TOPS and received her KOPS status in the 1980s. She was a member of TOPS for over 30 years. She was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church, and belonged to the Dorcas Guild and LWML.

Gladys was a caring person and enjoyed trying many different crafts, but her favorite was counted cross stitch. She was also a determined collector of butterfly and angel figurines, and adored the color lavender. Gladys enjoyed "search-a-word" puzzles and was always keeping up with the national, state, and local news.

Gladys was predeceased by her parents; her beloved husband of 52 years; in utero twins, two brothers, two sisters; and two nephews.

She is survived by her daughter, Dianne Zuelow Giffen (Garey Giffen) of Federal Dam; two special daughters Linda (Michael) Pol and Mary (Mark) Hodgkins all of Lake Lizzie, Fla.; one grandson and two great-grandchildren; a sister Grace McNeill of Edina, 24 nieces and nephews, and 59 great nieces and great nephews.

Gladys had many very good friends. She will be missed by those who knew her. Her kindness, empathy and thoughtfulness are something we should each try to emulate. God bless the memory of Gladys Zuelow.

Funeral services were held on Friday, December 3, 2010, at 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Wadena, with Pastor Stephen Meltzer officiating. Honorary pallbearers were all of Glady's wonderful friends. Pallbearers were Dean Boyer, Bob Boyer, Robert McNeill, David Buan, Richard Buan, Daniel Buan, Bob Buan and Doug Buan. Burial was on Monday, December 6, in Pine Grove Cemetery in Cass Lake.

Arrangements were with the Johnson Memorial Home in Wadena. (www.johnsonmemorialhome.com)[[In-content Ad]]
