Give credit where credit is due
To the Editor,
As most of you know the city recently received an emergency services early warning siren in our community. The siren is located near the boat landing and should be a great asset in securing the safety of our citizens.
Several years ago, Officer Murphy of the Longville Police Department was contacted by Cass County Emergency Services and asked if the city would be interested in applying for a grant to equip the city with this siren. When Murphy approached me as the Mayor at the time, all I could think about was the "Near miss" we experienced on July 4, 1999, when a tornado touched down several miles north of town. I advised Murphy to continue to pursue the project.
Cass County Emergency Services Director, Cary Swenson completed all the grant work and as a result of his efforts we now have an early warning system in the commmunity.
I would like to take this opportunity to offer my congratulation and appreciaton to him and all of those involved in getting this project completed.
Congratulations also to John Dufner for writing and putting in his thoughts on ISD #118, what we've all been thinking.
