Get involved in the Longville community

People often talk about the many things that make our little community of Longville unique and special: the beautiful lakes and forests, the summer turtle races, the winter fireworks. The list goes on and on. But one of the most remarkable characteristics of the Longville area is the generosity of the people here. We are generous with our time, and generous in our monetary giving. I have had the privilege to experience this generosity first hand while serving as a board member for the Longville Area Community Foundation. This wonderful organization, which was founded in the 1990's, is a group of volunteers (board members serve 3 year terms) who raise money specifically to make our lives better in the Longville area. We provide scholarships to local students, and donate to organizations like the Longville Food Shelf, Camp Olson, and the ice rink just to name a few. Check out our website at www.longvillefoundation.org to see a list of all the organizations we helped last year. This year, one of our focus areas is helping with the continuing development of our new city park. Organizations can be considered to receive a donation by going to our website and submitting a grant request. We also help individuals with special circumstances through neighbor-to-neighbor grants.

You may be wondering how we do all of this. We have established an endowment fund which provides a permanent investment and income for the Foundation. We also hold two fundraising events during the year: a summer picnic in July and a holiday gala in December. We offer annual memberships in the Foundation for $50.00 per family per year (from July to June). Sound interesting? There are multiple ways you can become involved. You can become a member and/or attend one of our fundraising events which are open to the public. Or how about considering serving as a director? We meet on the third Monday of every month at 3:30 p.m. at City Hall, and all are welcome. Come join us![[In-content Ad]]
