Riding high on a pair of victories from the previous week, the Northland Eagles traveled to Hill City to take on the Hornets in a conference match-up. Despite a late game charge the boys came up a 3 pointer shy at the final buzzer 45-42.

"It was a great game that we had a look at a 3-pointer to tie it up, but came up just short. We turned the ball over a few times down the stretch that cost us but the kids kept on battling and we clawed our way back from being down 9 with 5 minutes to go. We keep improving and that's big for us, the underclassmen are getting their feet wet and learning to compete with older kids and they understand that we left too many points at the free throw line," commented Coach Tim Vagle after the game.

Leaders were Trey Kelley scored 8 points followed up by Patrick Kemper with 7 points and 10 boards. Chris Scheidt led the offense with a double-double effort of 19 points, 23 rebounds and a pair of steals.

The boys hosted a very talented Nevis team Friday night hoping to get back on the winning track. It was not to be as a late first half injury hobbled the Eagle offense leading to a lopsided 80-32 loss to the Tigers.

"Nevis has some really athletic kids that all happen to be six feet tall and they used that to their advantage well. Our guys battled with them in the first half, until a couple of 3-pointers at the end of the half stretched the lead. Senior captain Trey Kelley twisted an ankle late in the first half and was out for rest of the night. Trey is our most experienced ball handler, however, this gave an opportunity for younger guards to gets some quick on the job training. This was simply a bump in the road, we'll bounce back from it and continue to improve," said Coach Vagle.

Scheidt led the Eagle scoring with 9 points and 4 boards followed by Kemper and Taylor Smith with a half dozen each.

The boys return to the hardwood tonight (Tuesday) to conclude the Floodwood Tournament, game time TBD. Nest Tuesday the Eagles will play the WHA Wolves at Sebeka in a tournament to begin at 6 p.m.[[In-content Ad]]
