Carol Kline, age 85, of Andover, MN and formerly of Longville passed away Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018 at J.A. Wedum Residential Hospice, in Brooklyn Park, MN.

Carol was born Feb. 24, 1933 in Chicago, IL to Robert and Edna (Haas) Mather. She attended primary school in the Lombard neighborhood in Chicago. Her family spent winters in Pensecola and summers at her aunt and uncles resort in Brevik on Leech Lake. Her family then moved to Brevik. She finished her education at Longville High School.

On Aug. 8 1953, she married Jerry Zaffke at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Longville. They moved to Bloomington, MN and started their family.

Together with her seven children, she moved back to Longville in 1970. In the fall of 1976 Carol found her true love, Bob Kline. They were married on March 10, 1977. They bought a home in Longville where Carol discovered the joy of perennial gardening. She loved her family and friends, her yard and gardens, her hometown of Longville, the Gunflint Trail, card games, and giving away "headknocker" Christmas ornaments made from ordinary drinking straws. She giave away thousands of headknockers over six decades.

Family she is reunited with include her husband, Bob; son, Scott "Coot" Zaffke; infant daughter, Joanie; granddaughter, Sheila Embertson; sister, Grace VanGeest; her parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her children, Mary (Donald) Tripp, of Longville; Theresa (Stanton) Friesen, of Brandon, S.D.; Paul (Janile) Zaffke, of Boy River; Marilyn (Brad Sr.) Ford, of Longville; Yvonne (Donald) Peach, of Tampa, FL; Ray (Pamela) Zaffke, of Circle Pines MN; step-children, Jocko (Lucinda) Kline, of Longville; Diana Bidwell, also of Longville; Robin (Tim) Smith, of Princeton, MN; 18 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; brothers, John Berger, of Longville and Hal (Bonnie) Berger of Buffalo, MN; many nieces and nephews; and a few very dear friends.

Per her request there will be no services, however, an informal gathering of family and friends will take place next summer.
