Gene spent his life working to provide for his family and investing in people. Regarding his work, he will be remembered for his 35 years of driving school bus for the Remer School District. He also logged and was a dairy farmer. He served local government as a treasurer for the Salem Township for 35 years. In 1953 Gene and his wife Alda, had a life transforming experience when they accepted Christ as their Savior. For 65 years it was his ambition to serve his Lord. He was a leader at the Boy River Log Chapel as a pianist, deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, Bible School volunteer, and he picked up neighborhood children and took them to church. Gene was an example of faithfulness and commitment to his Lord and wanted everyone to know his Savior.
Family, friends, and neighbors will remember him for his gentle and humble spirit, his willingness to help others, and his servant attitude. Gene will be greatly missed by his family, community, and church.
Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Alda (Hare) Godfrey; his parents, Maurice and Grace (Slater) Godfrey; his siblings, Jim, George, Raymond, Evelyn, Maude, and baby sister Elizabeth.
He is survived by: his son, Duane (Deb) Godfrey of Longville, Minnesota; daughter, Lou Ann (Ron) Lords, of Belt, Montana; daughter Kendra (Steve) Voss of Hannibal, Missouri; 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; sister Grace (Godfrey) Daniels; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials to be made to the Boy River Log Chapel in Memory of Gene and Alda Godfrey.
Visitation will be Saturday, June 2nd from 10:30 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Memorial Service at Boy River Log Chapel in Boy River, MN. Rev. Dennis Gonczy will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Remer, MN.
