Ernie grew up and graduated from Walker High School in 1953. Following graduation he attended Dunwoody College of Technology for auto mechanics. In 1957 he and his first wife Sandy (Bilben) settled in Walker. Sadly, Sandy passed away in 1988. Ernie married Sandy (Nagle) Finney in 1991 and the two resided in Walker until his passing. Throughout Ernie's life, there wasn't a tool or motorized vehicle that he couldn't master. He raced stock cars at Bemidji Speedway in the early 70's, raced snowmobiles in the late 70's and drove truck at various times in his life. He was in the reserves, a foreman for the Cass County Highway Department for 17 years, a proud member of the Walker Volunteer Fire Department for 29 years and a contributing member of local snowmobile clubs including the Leech Lake Riders. Music was a very important part of Ernie's life. He played trombone in bands and sang in various choirs, which included the Barbershoppers whenever he had the opportunity. After retirement, Ernie's passion for golfing really came to light and during that time he was awarded with three holes in one. Ernie will be missed by all who knew him.
