Ernie was born April 10, 1939 in Hoopeston, IL to Opal and James Ridens. Graduated with the class of 1957 and joined the US Navy. Married Rachel Goold in 1960. His career with Texaco took them to Port Washington, WI and eventually Minneapolis, MN. After 18 years, he left the tire business and began his second career selling insurance. Ernie was an optimist and embraced any excuse to celebrate; his enthusiasm for life was contagious. He made no apologies for his views and encouraged any opportunity for a spirited discussion. He was happiest when he was with his family; gathering for birthdays, vacationing and especially spending time at the cabin in Longville, MN.

He was proud of his Masonic heritage and dedicated his time to raising money and awareness to support their causes. He was an active member of the Anoka Masonic Lodge, Zuhrah Shrine, Order of the Quetzalcoatl, Past Patron Eastern Star, Past Associate Bethel Guardian Job's Daughters and a member of Anoka UCC.

Ernie passed away peacefully on February 11, 2020. Survived by wife Rachel, children Karen (Jerry Slater), Jim (Kim Sorensen) and Sarah (Rodd Johnson); Grandchildren Jason Paxton (Dawn), Rebecca Emmerich (Luke), Neil Ridens and Jill Ridens; Great grandchildren Masin, William, James and Lilly Paxton; Brianne and Joshua Emmerich; and the Fellenz family: Lyle, Shan, Alaina and Drew. Ernie is also survived by his sister, Penny McLain, of Gilman, IL and a large extended family.
