Environmental concerns

To the Editor,

Dear Citizens of the Longville area, specifically, those who live or play on Inguadona and Little Rice Lake.

Last fall we began to notice a lot of Septic tank trucks running up and down the road on 28th Ave NE on the West side of Inguadona Lake. We thought perhaps people in the neighborhood did a fall septic tank clean up. There were several trucks a day which also seemed odd, but we didn't know. We live in Missouri so we only come to our home during the summer. This past visit, we notice a sewage smell while sitting on our deck. Visiting with our neighbors, we discovered that sewage was being dumped in an open field, less than 1500 feet from our home and from the shore line of our lake! Let me repeat that, sewage is being dumped, less than 1500 feet from the lake shore! I am seriously alarmed that with all the heavy rains that there is run off of septic tank ingredients, sewage, drain cleaner, toilet bowl cleaner, septic tank cleaner, into our lakes. This toxic combination will soon be in the ground water, and I do believe that all of us get our water from the ground. Those of us who are living less than 1500 feet from this sewage will experience the effects first.

I plan to contact the Environmental Agencies in the area to bring notice of this situation. I also feel that people in the Inguadona and Little Rice Lake areas need to be informed of exactly what is being dumped and how near their water supply. This has all been glossed over in my opinion and I hope this letter will bring the discussion to the front and that some healthy changes will be made. I feel at the very least, there should have been a public hearing for those of us on these two lakes to decide if we were willing to take these risks. We received no notice at all! Let me serve Notice now. Sewage is being dumped less than 1500 feet from our shorelines and homes.[[In-content Ad]]
