Ed was born in Mpls, MN on August 27, 1913, a son of the late Edward Joseph Monahan, Sr. and Nellie Thompson Monahan.
Ed graduated with a BS in 1935 from St. Thomas College, in St Paul, Minn. He spent 30 years film-making at the University of Minnesota, most notably for Dr. C. Walton Lillehei, a leader in open heart surgery, and for the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Retiring to Longville in 1983, Ed spent 8 years as Township Supervisor. He moved to Morgantown in 2001.
Ed compiled family genealogies for the Monahan, Winther, and Thompson families, among others.
He is survived by his children, Edward J. (Sandi) Monahan III of Fort Myers, Fla., Nora M. (Bill) MacDonald of Morgantown, and Mary K. Monahan of Annapolis, Md.; grandchildren, Heather (Peter) Parker of East Meadow, N.Y., Shannon ( Jeff) Geiman of Glenville, Pa.; great-grandchildren, Dakota, Sam and Riley Parker, Brock and Taylor Geiman; sister-in-law Pat Monahan of Burnsville, Minn.; nieces Kathleen Westlin, of Minneapolis, and Janet Cummings of Mendota Heights, Minn.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Helen Winther, wife Margaret Barry and brother William Monahan. Memorials preferred to the U of MN Foundation.
