Eagles top Polar Bears, Hornets, fall to Broncos

After some last-minute schedule changes that saw the Eagles drop Southridge and pick Class AA International Falls, the team traveled north to take on the Broncos on Wednesday night.

Early in the first half, the Eagles suffered a big loss when sophomore guard Nolan Carlson went down with an ankle injury. He has been a key contributor on both ends of the floor all year and they missed his presence as they fell 77-74 despite Alec Wake scoring a career high 32 points to go along with six steals. Nathan Johnson had 14 points and five rebounds. Nolan Carlson had 10 quick points before the injury. The Eagles hope to get Carlson back for the final three games of the regular season.

Friday brought the Floodwood Polar Bears to Remer and they were no match for the Eagle boys losing 90-60. As has become the signature of the Northland five, they used good ball movement and accurate shooting to take control of the game early and cruise to an easy 30-point victory.

Alec Wake, who also had six assists and four steals, and Nathan Johnson each scored 19. Aiden Carlson finished with 16, and Harris Carlson scored 14 to go along with eight boards and five assists. Carson Johnson and Liam Wake both finished with eight points in a balanced scoring effort.

In another rare Wednesday game, the Eagles faced off against the friendly rival to the East, Hill City in their second match-up of the year. The Hornets played stingy defense to start out the game, but the Eagles slowly pulled away, taking a 17-point lead at halftime on their way to a 72 to 38 victory. With Nolan Carlson still out with an injury and Alec Wake being held in check by the box-in-one defense employed by the Hornets, the Eagles needed to get scoring from other players, and Liam Wake did just that, providing 19 points off the bench to go along with five rebounds and three steals. Others stepping up included Carson Johnson with 13 and Aiden Carlson with 12. Harris Carlson and Nathan Johnson both had great all-around games with 10 points and nine rebounds each.

The Eagles Host Mt. Iron -Buhl on Saturday before traveling to Chisholm and Upsula to next week to finish out the regular season.[[In-content Ad]]
