Eagles struggle, show promise
"This was a real heartbreaker for us. We were behind a the half and we battled back to take the leas at the 10 minute mark of the second half. With five seconds left in regulation, they took the ball the length of the court and hit a three at the buzzer," said Head Coach Eric Smart.
"This was a tough one to take, we played a great game and came up just short. We had a couple of untimely fouls going down the stretch and we didn't shoot our free throws well. We did force 27 turnovers and we worked much harder on defense," concluded Coach Smart.
Taylor Smith led the Eagles with 20 points and three rebounds. Patrick Kemper followed with 18 points and 14 boards, Gary Gross had 11 points and 5 rebounds; Austin Likens with nine points and Jordan Tabaka with two.
Monday found the Eagles back in the friendly confines in Remer hosting Fon du lac. Despite a slow start, the boys battled back into the game only to run out of time and falling 75-61.[[In-content Ad]]
"We were short two key players and got off to a very slow start. At the end of the first half we were down by 21. We got much more aggressive in the second half on both ends of the court and got within eight. It was fun to watch our younger guys take it to a very good team, we just ran out of gas at the end. Austin Likens and Gary Gross really stepped up on both ends of the court. Easton Wake and Logan Gross both played key roles in our comeback attempt. After the game I told the guys how proud I was of their effort, hopefully this will be a turning point in our season. When we start to put whole games together, we will start winning." Said Coach Smart.
Gross led with 23 points and 10 boards, Kemper followed with 13 points and seven rebounds; Zak Nornberg added a dozen points; Likens with eight; Wake with three and Jake Spartz added a pair.
