Eagles show early season jitters, fall to Drakes
First game jitters were very evident in the first half as the Eagles just could not connect on their shots and had many turnovers. The Drakes were able to control the play in the first half and staked themselves to a 41-21 lead at the half.
The Eagles would slowly scratch back into the game and closed to within twelve at 57-45 midway through the second as they started to find their shooting touch. Down the stretch the boys could not muster that run they needed to close the gap and the Drakes were able to close them out 70-50.
Coach Carlson was pleased with parts of the first game as the Eagles have a team with limited varsity experience, returning only one starter from last season's team. Carlson was pleased with the boys performance in the second half as they played the drakes even and actually controlled the play for most of the second half. "We actually outrebounded them for the game, we had some cold shooting (22% from 2 pt, 30% from 3 point) and didn't get to the free throw line (3-6) enough.......add in too many turnovers....... I am pleased with the boys effort to keep playing hard and fight through the first half and play a solid second half. "
With three consecutive games at the beginning of the season, the boys host Littlefork on Monday, November 24 and travel to Walker on Tuesday, November 25, and traveling again on December 1 to Carlton, the early season schedule will give the team plenty of opportunities to see where they can work on improving their game heading into December.
