Eagles open 2015 season on the road
The Eagles were hoping to get off to a nice start, but on this night it was not to be as the bats were silenced and the defense had a few miscues as the team fell 12-0.
Baseball season in Minnesota does have its perks do to such a short season, in that the boys were able to get back at it again the next day at home against the Littlefork-Big Falls Vikings in what turned out to be a very long game which was suspended due to darkness. At the end of seven innings the score was knotted 15-15. The game will be finished when the Eagles travel to Littlefork on the 27th.
Next up was another pair of road games for the squad as they travelled to Mcgregor on Monday, April 21 and to Nashwauk on Thursday, April 23.
Against McGregor the boys played a fine defensive error free game and Cooper Kovall pitched a gem, giving up only one hit. The offense picked up where they left off against Littlefork and put the ball in play and took advantage of the Mercs miscues en-route to a 10-1 victory.
The Spartans of Nashwauk proved to be a bit more than the Eagles could bite off as their pitcher kept the Eagle hitters from making any good contact as they toppled the Eagles 9-0.
Head Coach Mark Shepard summed up the first four games, "We have shown that the potential for a good run at the end of the season is there. If we can cut down on the mistakes and work on doing all the little things correctly, we will be fine. We have a heavy schedule in the next 4 weeks with 16 games, so we have plenty of opportunities. We're not there yet, but I fully expect the boys to continue to work hard and we will see the rewards from it."
Next up for the Eagles:
4/25- @ Hill City Tournament
4/27- @Littlefork
4/30- @ Cherry
5/1- Home vs Mountain Iron Buhl
5/4 - Home vs LaPorte
5/5 - Home vs Hill City
