By Scott Wicks- | Comments: 0 | Leave a comment

After a week that had the Eagles drop three games, the boys were eager to get back to winning some games. Cass Lake came to town on Monday, May 5 and the Eagles sent them home on the losing side of the 7-3 game. Justin Wicks started and got the win for the Eagles, as he allowed two earned runs into the sixth on four hits before giving way to Zak Nornberg who earned his third save of the season. Austin Likens led the way at the plate as he went 3-4 with a double and an RBI. Zak Nornberg was 1-3 with 2 RBI. The Eagle running game kicked into gear as the stole nine bases in the game.

Tuesday had the Eagles on the road to face conference foe Hill City. The Hornets were looking to repay the Eagles for an earlier loss this season.

Austin Likens took the hill for the Eagles and didn't seem to have his good "stuff" going yet fought through and kept the Eagles close through three innings. Trailing 3-0 entering the top of the third the Eagles pushed across 5 runs as the bats came alive and the Eagle runners forced the Hornets into mistakes. The Hornets would come back for three of their own in the bottom of the third to take back the lead at 6-5. Zak Nornberg entered to pitch for the Eagles and he and the Hornet hurler would exchange scoreless frames going into the 7th. Eagle hitters once again woke up and put the pressure on the Hornets as the Eagles plated four more to take a 9-6 lead into bottom of the 7th and Nornberg disposed of the Hornets in order to earn a well-deserved come from behind 9-6 victory.

Leading the way for the Eagle bats this game were; Evan Daudt 3-4, Zak Nornberg 3-5 and 3 RBI, Dustin Sepin- 2 RBI and Marcus Woods were both 2-4, while Cooper Kovall reached base all four at bats with a hit, two walks and got hit by a pitch. The team left 12 on base, and with a couple more well timed 2 out hits would have blown the game wide open.

Hill City- 6 8 6

Saturdays game versus LaPorte was cancelled due to the Wildcats being unable field a full squad.

The Eagles record now stands at 7-3 on the season. Two home games against Deer River on Tuesday and Chisholm on Thursday punctuate a busy 4 game week for the Eagles starting Monday May 12.
