Eagles fall to Tigers in a hard hitting contest

The Northland Eagles traveled to Nevis Friday night to take on the Tigers still searching for the right combination to put up their first win of the 2010 season. Shawn Hofius recovered a Tiger fumble on the second play of the game, but offensive struggles continued to plague the Eagles resulting in a lopsided 48-0 loss.

"We were able to move the ball better in the second quarter with a nice punt fake that Jordan Tabaka was able to take for 28 yards, but we still struggle to catch the ball at key times to keep drives alive," said Coach Shem Daugherty.

The Eagles suffered a setback to their efforts near halftime when two of their players collided resulting in a long game delay and subsequent hit to morale resulting in a pair of quick touchdowns for the Tigers. The Eagles entered halftime with a disappointing 34 point deficit.

"The defense was able to make some stops at times, but we struggled to stop their outside running game," commented Coach Daugherty.

Offensive leaders for the Eagles were Jordan Tabaka who went 36 yards on 16 carries with 5 yards through the air and another 20 kick return yards. Taylor Anderson added 19 yards on 3 touches, Kevin Murphy added 15 yards on the ground and went 7 for 16 in the air. Patrick Kemper went 15 yards on just one touch and Steve Grundman added 11 yards on receiving.

Defensively, Chris Scheidt had 10 tackles followed by Zach Philstrom with 9 stops. Devin Mulligan chipped in 5 stops.

The Eagles will celebrate their homecoming this Friday against Onamia in a 7 p.m. matchup.[[In-content Ad]]
