Eagles fall to Drakes in season home opener
Under guidance from new Head Coach, Chris Carlson, the Eagles jumped out to a 5-0 lead on a couple nice baskets by Zak Nornberg. The drakes fought back and took an 11-5 lead before the Eagles made a run and took the lead at 14-13 just over midway through first half. That would be the final lead for the home team as the Drakes slowly chipped in a bucket here and there and the Eagles shots simply would not fall as the half ended 28-18 in favor of the Drakes.
The second half was a mirror of the first as the Eagles cold shooting continued and the Drakes held them at bay for a final score of 55-38.
Combine the cold shooting, with only six free throw attempts, and as Coach Carlson noted, "a few too many turnovers" the Eagles were still within striking distance all evening. While the offense struggled, the defense played very well. If the defense can continue to hold opponents to less than 30 points per half, the offense will pick up and the wins will follow.
